How an ozone treatment works

Ozoneair is a unique ozone generator that converts the oxygen in the air into ozone, also called active oxygen, which clears odors very effectively. It neutralizes bad odors as well as spores, bacteria, allergens, and other harmful microorganisms in the space that’s being treated. The ozone treatment is quick and efficient.

You start the ozone treatment by pressing a button and then every part of the space fills up with ozone. Ozone is a molecule consisting of three oxygen atoms (O3)

Ozone reaches all odors in the space – both in the air and in places where odors have settled in surfaces such as walls, floor, and furniture.

All odors are eliminated in a quick reaction. Ozone attacks and neutralizes the substances that cause bad odors, making them completely odorless.

All of the ozone turns back into regular oxygen. Two hours after the treatment is over, the ozone is gone and the air in the treated space smells fresh.

Ozone purifies in nature

You probably know how fresh and clear the air feels after a thunderstorm, that’s because at that point the levels of ozone in the air are extra high. Ozone is formed in strong electrical discharges from thunder when oxygen molecules split and bind to each other. You also feel a similar fresh and clear scent in pine and spruce forests, where ozone is formed through photochemical reactions

What is ozone?

Ozone is a slightly light blue gas with a characteristic sharp odor. Ozone is also called “active oxygen”, and its molecule consists of three oxygen atoms. It’s highly oxidizing and therefore purifies extremely efficiently.

Ozone is found naturally at high altitudes in our stratosphere, 25-35 kilometers from the earth’s surface. The gas is vital for all life on earth as it absorbs UV-rays. Ground-level ozone can form when sunlight meets exhaust gas from cars, which is harmful to plants and animals.

What is ozone?

How ozone is used

Ozone is an effective oxidizing agent surpassed only by a few other substances on earth. Therefore, ozone is used to purify water and clear odors from, e.g., a home with smoke damage.

Purification of water where ozone is used instead of chlorine to eliminate bacteria, mold spores and other harmful substances.

In factories, to bleach textiles and pulp.

In healthcare facilities to disinfect laundry

Furniture and rooms with smoke damage from a fire can become odorless by using ozone.

Decontamination companies have been using ozone for decades to clear homes and other buildings from the smell of smoke, mold, and other odors.

Car repair companies remove odors from cars and other vehicles using ozone.

Odor removal performed privately by individuals. With Ozoneair, you can purify with ozone on your own, without prior knowledge - in your home or holiday home, your car, boat, caravan, or motorhome. In short, in any space where you want to get rid of bad odors.

OZONE TREATMENT

Ozoneair is a user-friendly ozone generator that can easily be used for ozone treatments. It is fully automatic, all you need to do is start it and let its cleansing power work while you do other things.

Connect the ozone generator to a regular wall socket

Turn the knob to set the square meter of the space

A suitable treatment time will be displayed on the screen

Press start to start the treatment

Leave the space during the ozone treatment

Come back 2 hours after the ozone treatment is over

Everything you need to know about ozone treatments

What must be prepared before an ozone treatment?

Before initiating your ozone treatment with Ozoneair, you should make some preparations:

1. Open cabinets, wardrobes, drawers, and cupboard doors so the ozone can properly reach all surfaces and spaces.
2. You can hang clothes on a rack in the middle of the room to let the ozone give them optimal freshness.
3. Cover exhaust air valves in the space that’s being treated, to make the space airtight.
4. Remove all animals and plants from the space.
5. Seal or tape the cracks in door and window shut. Cover any openings with building plastic if there’s no door, or between different floors.

What’s important to keep in mind during the ozone treatment?

The most important thing to keep in mind during the ozone treatment is to let the ozone work in as enclosed a space as possible. Don’t open any doors or windows and don’t enter the space during the treatment. Neither people nor animals should enter the space, as the ozone is dangerous to inhale, as it’s a strong oxidizing gas. You also need to pay attention to the characteristic sharp smell of the ozone if you are in a nearby room. This may mean that the ozone for some reason is leaking out of the enclosed space. When exposed to too much ozone, you will experience an irritated, pricking sensation in your nose and throat.

What should I do when the treatment is over?

When the ozone treatment is over, the product will shut down automatically, then you must wait for at least two hours after the ozone treatment is over before entering the space again. After those two hours the ozone molecules (O3) have turned back into regular oxygen (O2). In some cases a faint smell of ozone may remain, but the odor will gradually disappear. It’s always good to ventilate the space afterwards.

Are there any risks involved in ozone treatment?

Acids and malodorous substances

An ozone treatment should not go on for too long. That’s why Ozoneair’s ozone generator operates at intervals, which is unique. When intervals are too long there is a risk that the ozone will react again, with the residual products formed during the initial reaction. The second reaction may cause acids and certain malodorous substances to form.

Ozoneair operates at oscillating intervals, which means that the intensity varies while the ozone is being distributed. The technology is developed specifically to prevent the ozone from reacting with any residual products.

Damaged materials

Even if the ozone treatment is carried out at correct intervals, the total treatment time must not be too long in relation to the effect. Then the ozone concentration can become too high, which may result in a risk of damaging rubber, plastic, and electronics.

Ozonair’s unique technology means that it automatically optimizes the treatment time and the effect according to the space that’s being treated, to eliminate the risk of damaging materials. Ozoneair has been tested by running it for hundreds of hours to ensure that it won’t damage any materials in your home. It’s important to follow the instructions in the product manual.

How long does an ozone treatment take?

An ozone treatment takes 1-12 hours depending on the size of the space being treated. It’s important that you don’t exceed the recommended treatment time.

Does the treatment need to be repeated?

In some cases, the treatment may need to be repeated. This may be because the unwanted odors are very deep or because the ozone hasn’t reached every part of the space for some reason. When performing a repeat treatment, the treatment time can be reduced slightly.
